85% of new moms will experience changes in their mood in the days after having a baby. However, up to 15% of these women will experience more intense mood changes such as anxiety or depression. Postpartum mood swings can be described as either baby blues, postpartum depression, or postpartum psychosis.
Postpartum depression symptoms can include being tearful, feeling unworthy, fatigue, lack of concentration, or suicidal thoughts. Oftentimes, women feel that these are just a normal part of postpartum and never reach out for help. While it can be common to experience heightened levels of exhaustion, lack of concentration, or more tearful and weepy due to hormonal imbalances, if you ever even find yourself wondering, "Is this normal?" it is time to seek help.
